This is the jumping off and return point by ferry to Ocracoke
and Cape Hatteras. Cedar Island in the opinion of many
historians is the original "Roanoke" , the Indian
word for "island", was "Roanoke". Many of
the Cedar Island's, Atlantic's and Sea Level's
long time residents can trace their heritage back to the
ships manifest that brought the first colonists to the
original down east section of what is known now as North
Carolina.
A visit to Cedar Island offers visitors many opportunities.
They include beautiful sunrises; horseback rides on the
beaches; fine dining and lodging; beaches for sunning
and swimming; places to shop for supplies; a great camp
ground for RV's or tents, fishing; hunting; bird watching
(guides are available); walking through the wild life
refuge; watching and photographing the commercial fisherman
leave or return with their catch, or just having a quiet
picnic lunch near the ferry.
